SAVE THE DATE!
Dear John Hay Families,
My name is Michelle Westoby and I have a fourth and second grader. I am co-chairing this year's auction with Kurstin Thompson (second grader mom), Trinette Terry Carlson (second grader mom), and Cherice Hogan (kindergartener, second grader, and fifth grader mom).
As we head into the holidays, we wanted to give you some information and history about our biggest fundraising event of the year, the John Hay Auction. We have had twenty-two years of successful auctions raising over $200,000 each year. These proceeds directly fund reduced class size instruction, early literacy support, reading and math intervention services and other enrichment programs at John Hay. To keep these programs available in this time of continued underfunding of education, we need the support of all John Hay families.
Over 80% of items donated to our auction come from John Hay families.
We understand it is hard to know how you can contribute or what you can donate. Here are some ideas:
Donate an item! Do you own a vacation home, or a sailboat? Do you have Seahawks, theatre, or ballet tickets? Do you work for an airline or have miles you would like to donate? Are you a personal trainer, photographer, or an esthetician? Do you know a local chef? Are you a business owner? We are looking for unique and creative "experiences" to auction off. Maybe you and some other John Hay parents think it would be fun to host a sushi-making or wine tasting party? We are open to any and all ideas.
Donate your time! Do you like to bake? We need about 30 desserts for our Dessert Dash. Are you a videographer? We need a volunteer to film our short Fund-A-Need video to play at the auction. Are you willing to donate the gift of time by helping with set up or clean up? Perhaps you would like to attend the auction, but don't want to sit at a table? We need many volunteers to help the night of the event.
New this year, we will be hosting two events. Hear Us Roar: John Hay Auction 2020" will be the traditional adults only evening at Fisher Pavilion at Seattle Center on March 14, 2020. We have listened to family feedback and are now adding "The Bee's Knees Bash" - a free family friendly event that will be held at school on Friday, March 13th. This new all-inclusive family event will showcase a small, kid-focused silent auction, student art projects, class parties, and Teacher Experiences.
Thank you for considering a donation to the John Hay Auction. Please fill out the procurement form and return to the Volunteer Office by February 14, 2020. If you have any questions, please let me know!
