Dear John Hay Community,

As we navigate these difficult times, it’s always encouraging to know goodness is still occurring in the world. Our John Hay Partners PTO would like to share the results of our online auction efforts, extend our gratitude to those that donated and worked tirelessly, and share some opportunities to continue to spread goodwill and connect with our community.

The John Hay Partners PTO would like to extend our deepest gratitude to our John Hay community.
Our online auction came to a close on March 31. We thank everyone that was able to participate and help us move toward our fundraising goal for the year. 

Between our online auction and additional generous donations, we reached a total of $81,500. Some extremely generous donations were received from some amazing John Hay families. We sincerely appreciate these contributions that go directly toward the education of our students.

With this amount, we raised 40% of our goal of $200,000. Given the uncertain times we are all navigating, we feel appreciative and value what our community was able to achieve. 

Given the reality of falling short of our goal, we must acknowledge how this affects our ability to fund the optimal amount for the annual grant to our school. Each year the PTO grants the school an amount that covers specialists, tutors, a success coach, recess and lunch supervision. By not hitting our target, this limits the funds we can grant that support all these important programs and positions. We will work diligently to make up for the difference in funds, but planning will be dependent on how we are all advised by governing agencies over the coming months. We are all in this together as a community and with your help, we will find our way. For those able to contribute, donations are always accepted with gratitude via the PTO website:

Finally, we would like to extend a most heartfelt thank you to our auction team members that worked so hard for the last 7 months to bring this auction to fruition. Months and months of planning, procurement, creativity, and commitment went into creating two fantastic events that would have been enjoyed by our community and brought in needed funds. We applaud their efforts for being nimble and creative and working with the intense curveball the world was dealt. They persevered, looked for new opportunities, and worked incredibly hard to keep the auction on track as much as humanly possible. We thank them for their dedication from start to finish. We also thank our dear teachers and staff for their contributions to the auction offering experiences for our students. We appreciate all our teachers and staff do for our kids in school and beyond.

First and foremost we would like to thank all of the local businesses and John Hay families that donated items and experiences for our school to auction off.  The auction would not be possible without them. 

Thank you Marie Ong and Melynda Cheng for all you did to take the charge on organizing a brand new event for our school, the Bee’s Knees Bash. Hopefully this is something we will be able to have next year. 

Thank you Aoife Brady and Melynda Cheng for all of their hard work on the online auction. Especially the mad rush that ensued once we knew school was going to be canceled and we needed to quickly move many items online. We are so thankful for all of your help. 

Thank you to the talented Sarah Schmidt for the amazing graphics you provided throughout the process. From the Save the Date design to the invitations to the auction booklet.

Thank you to Jennifer Alexander Hill for all of her hard work with the auction website and especially social media communication.  Her communication via social media was an especially key component these last few weeks. 

We would like to thank all of the grade level art project leads for the amazing pieces of artwork they produced. A special thanks to Jane Gan for leading this charge. 

Thank you to Cherice Carr Hogan and Lisa McCluskey for organizing the Candid Kids photos. 

Thank you to Amy Owens for organizing the Dessert Dash with local businesses and John Hay families. 

Thank you to Adrienne Gibson and Giuli Lewis for their assistance with procurement. 

Final thanks goes to Lynn Baker. Lynn is the heart of the auction every year.  Thank you so much for your guidance throughout the process.  The entire school appreciates everything you do!
