As the holiday season approaches, stresses and strains we might otherwise dismiss can overwhelm us.  The holiday season can place additional strain on many families in our community who are already working hard to keep their children fed, clothed, active, and hopeful.

The purpose of the John Hay Families and Friends program is to strengthen our school community by giving all families the opportunity to:

From Monday 11/9 - Friday 12/4, John Hay CARES will host a Holiday Donation Drive to benefit Treehouse, a non-profit that serves Seattle foster youth. A letter will go home this week with more information, or find out more about the John Hay Elementary Cares program at the school.

All you have to do to participate is:

    • Read the letter in your child's red folder. This will explain what their class is collecting.
    • Send new & unwrapped items to school with your student, and
    • Students drop items into the classroom collection bag.
    • You may also send cash, and the CARES team will purchase items on your behalf.

Thanks for your generosity!

Weekend Food for Kids works with schools in Queen Anne and Magnolia to provide extra food for students on weekends when free and reduced price school meals are not available.

In partnership with Queen Anne Helpline, Ballard Food Bank, and Queen Anne Presbyterian Church participating students receive pre-packed bags of nonperishable food items containing the equivalent of seven meals and snacks; fresh fruit is included. Perishable items (yogurt, string cheese, hummus) are also available. The bags are delivered to school for students to take home over the weekend.

Participation in the program is completely confidential.

To sign up, please return this form to Assistant Principal Mr. Berkenwald OR to the front office.  Once your child starts the...
