You may not think you know Kim, but you do. She’s greeted you warmly and reassured you at your first Kindergarten Meet and Greet. She’s flashed you an easy smile as you breeze through Hay Way during pickup. She cheers on the parents as she coordinates classroom baskets for the auction every year. She’s patiently guided you through your first encounter with the dreaded laminator. She’s always prepared, producing that stapler you needed right on the spot from her “organized clown car ...

Kids learning coding

Founded by Code.org, a non-profit dedicated to expanding access to computer science, and increasing participation by women and underrepresented minorities, The Hour of Code is a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in 180+ countries. Their vision is that every student in every school should have the opportunity to learn computer science, just like biology, chemistry or algebra. Each year they produce curriculum resources and tutorials to support thousands of events worldwide and, in doing so, expose these students to a whole new world.

For the last three years, the Hour of Code events at John Hay have been organized by the wonderful Sarah Holt. Sarah visits each classroom to teach the children about coding and why it’s wor...
